Indonesia

We're studying Indonesia this month and so took advantage of an exhibit at the Asian Art Museum. Taking the train in was a fun part of the adventure!


Photos of the actual art weren't allowed, but this Sarad, which is a "cosmic offering" was elaborate, beautiful, and fun to look at in detail.


We saw a version of a shadow puppet show, with a live translator. G asked part way though why we could see the puppetteer and that was answered at the end - "real" performances are so tied to spiritual ritual as to make a true duplicated effort inappropriate. I can appreciate that. We did get to see the puppeteer making elaborate shadow puppets afterward and the girls got a hand at making their own with the friends who accompanied us. Rich day!
