Desolation Wilderness Backpacking Adventure: Day One

Last year we ran into a summer snowstorm, waking up to a white July.  This summer our six-day trip plans were derailed by our poor puppy's feet, which got so scraped up by the granite that we had to hike out early.  Sad, but his pain was worse.  Getting out was part of the adventure, as he was severely limited in his ability to do so himself!

But first, the beauty of day one.  We started at Echo Lake in the Desolation Wilderness.

Just the beginning of soreness by lunchtime

I've always liked trail photos, but the granite rocks on this one took on a new, harsher reality in light of Puck's feet.

So gorgeous
