Carmel and its Mission

Very last minute plans; friends with a house in Carmel-by-the-Sea invited us down to visit. Luckily, we had no plans and eagerly accepted. It was wonderful to see them - they live in the D.C. area and so are not near us often. It was also fun to play at the beach and then fantastic and fascinating to visit St. Carlos Borromeo del Rio Carmelo, a.k.a. the Mission at Carmel.

On the left, on the beach with Pebble Beach in the background; on the right, with St. Anthony of Padua and the child Jesus behind.

Some of the restored detail below; this was built in the 1700s. The confessional believed to have been used by Blessed Junipero Serra is below on the right.

A priest's bedroom, restaged with stories behind each piece of furniture.

Checking out the kitchen.

Wonderful day!
