Fun Field Trip

Fun with Anna, rides, animals, and a really interesting animal show. Very cool to see a teen-age girl nonchalantly handling birds of prey, 150 pound boas, and even an alligator! A plus for me: time with Denise. 'Nuf said! Except gratitude - thank you, Denise and Anna, for the invitation and for the wonderful day together!

A Marvelous Drive

We picked more blackberries (below). Later, our drive took us along a remote road, high on a beautiful ridge between the ocean on one side and rolling vineyards on the other. Blackberries so massive and luscious that we could see their size and color from the moving car lined the side of the road. Oh, we couldn't resist. With Charles on the lookout for approaching vehicles, we started picking. It didn't take long to discover that a handful eaten all at once was music in your mouth. Some made it home, but many fell to the beat of our giddy pick-eat-save happiness.

What an evening! We had to stop again to admire the sunset, despite having just decided that it was getting too dark to be on such a remote road. We were just above a thick fog, overlooking the ocean and watched the sun sink into the thick fog.  The sight was more awesome than pictures can show.

More Fun At the Beach

I love Northern California beaches - we watched the fog form right off the water and roll up the hill, we saw it clear as the temperature dropped and the sun came out, we climbed rocks and caught crabs, we identified tons of edible plants near the coastline... made friends, played, sat and watched... marvelous.

Old Dog, New Energy

Vacation is good for all. Our sweet dog REALLY wanted that ball, even though I thought he'd chased it enough and was wearing himself out. I stuck it high in a tree and then he shocked me by trying to climb the tree. Our puppy is back!

Tidepooling and Beach Play with Kathleen

Secret beaches, tidepooling wonders, engineering a sand fort, lots of sand play: a combination that made for a marvelous afternoon. Mass in the morning was lovely too and the Stations of the Cross walk so special to share with a great friend.

From one "secret beach;" view of another.

Something is so funny!

They get along so well... except when they don't. Love it when they do!

Now, THIS Is Summer

Relaxing and hiking on the coast with Kathleen. We made blackberry ice cream with our early crop. De-LISH!

More Fun at the Coast

Showing off some fruits from our
blackberry picking labors.  Not quite a
harvest yet... but maybe next week
more will be ripe

Found wild herbs, too.

Ike found a BIG stick!

Happy Birthday Charles!

All of those cooking lessons with G paid off big time:
I think this was the most delicious cake ever.  And the girls had elaborate ideas for decorating it,
with G in charge and K cooperating fully.  Now I call that a birthday gift!
More fun on birthday week; we've been
playing almost every day, even though K got a
bloody nose when she failed to dodge a bad pitch.
A dog and his birthday man; an evening walk along the river.
Beautiful, except for the mosquitos.  Ike is awfully
happy here too - lots of outside time, lots of family time, and
this day even a river swim.

Adventures at the Coast

A favorite walk; miss you, Mike and Terry!
Exploring new beach structures
First, "I'm tired."  Then, "I'll carry you."  It didn't last long
(she's heavy!) but the gesture was so sweet.

SF Zoo...and More Butterflies

At the zoo with our visitors from NV and CO.   The girls were so happy that seeing the animals was an afterthought at best.  I've included more butterfly pictures (I couldn't resist!) but this time I added some people, too! And a very active polar bear... it was pretty cool to watch it dive to the bottom of its little pond and catch a fish... seems like when I was little, all of the zoo animals just sat around. Whatever zoos are doing differently now, it is working!

SF Sights: Spectacular Stairs

I read about these stairs at some point when researching SF history; they were plain old concrete stairs when I had to run them for cross country training in high school, but in 2005 art was added in the form of stunning and intricately laid tiles, inspired by similar stairs in Brazil. Gorgeous at a glance and in the detail, even on an overcast day. Imagine them in the sun!
